What is it?
The segmenting principle is basically the breaking down of large lesson segments into smaller lesson segments. A common way that lessons are broken down and pieced together in placing a "continue" button in the frame of each slide. This allows the learner to move at their own pace and take in the information at the speed that works best.
Example:
In the image below you can see the piecing together of the different segments of lesson. With the image numbered 1-4 you can see how the larger lesson is segmented into smaller segments.
