Coherence Principle #1

What is it?

The first coherence principle #1 suggests that music and sounds in the background of projects should be avoided in e-learning courses. Extraneous sounds could overload the working memory of the learner especially when the material is new, presented quickly, or not under the learners control. 

Example:

In the image below you can see an example of the coherence principle. This is a great example of not following the first coherence principle. This video had background music that overwhelming the narration of the lesson. The music made it hard for the viewer to concentrate on the information being presented.
